BlueSky signs exclusive agreement to supply new aerial photomap of Wales
Aerial mapping company BlueSky has signed an exclusive agreement with COWI enabling them to supply the most up to date aerial photography of Wales. COWI, an internationally renowned consultancy group, was awarded a contract by the Welsh Assembly Government to capture and provide high resolution, full colour, map accurate photography for the whole of Wales. The imagery, which is being captured during 2006, will be available from BlueSky to both the professional and education markets.
The aerial survey will cover approximately 20,000 square kilometres of Wales and will capture both colour and near infrared photography using the latest digital camera technology. The imagery will be orthorectified and supplied to the Welsh Assembly Government as a digital image layer that will prove to be a valuable resource for a number of projects including the administration of land management and agricultural and environmental monitoring and control.
The agreement between BlueSky and COWI builds on an existing relationship between the two companies as they have already completed a number of aerial mapping projects in the UK. "It was important for COWI to choose a UK partner that had a strong position in the market and a good reputation." Said Mike McKay, Associate Director, COWI. He continued, "We have previously worked with BlueSky and we are confident that this agreement will strengthen our relationship." Rachel Eddy, Managing Director of BlueSky added, "COWI have an international reputation for aerial surveying having completed a number of high profile projects throughout Europe. This agreement will enable BlueSky to continue to provide the highest quality aerial imagery to the UK market."
The new imagery will be available in a variety of formats including hard copy prints, digital image files and as a ready to use dataset that is compatible with geographical information systems (GIS) and other desktop packages. The data will also be offered through the UK Perspectives joint venture between BlueSky and Infoterra, which provides countrywide aerial photography database.
