Triton Units Installed To Cope With Distillery Effluent And With No Downtime To The Tank
Four of KEE Process Limited Triton® Units were recently installed in the treatment plant of the village of Keith in Aberdeenshire to help it cope with the high and fluctuating pollutant concentrations from a local prestigious distillery.
Built over thirty years ago, the treatment tank structures were in sound condition, but the mechanical equipment was in need of replacement. KEE were asked by Byzack, a Framework Partner for Scottish Water Solutions to evaluate process design and offer a solution.
Having visited the four sites and evaluated the plant, KEE Process Limited proposed the installation of five Triton® Units. The Triton® dual mode aerator/mixers needed to be wall mounted without causing disturbance to the existing wall structure. In addition, to avoid downtime and expensive emptying of the activated sludge tanks, the installation was to be completed whilst the plant was in operation.
KEE specified for concrete plinths to be cast alongside the existing tank wall and for the Triton® Units to be installed on the plinths and turned on when the old aerators were turned off. Once the plinths were cast KEE installed the Tritons whilst the plant was fully functional and discharging normally. Once the Tritons were installed all that remained to be done was to switch on the Tritons in order that they can take over the function of aerating and mixing the mixed liquor in the reactor tank. The changeover was achieved without any downtime on the plant, or the need to provide temporary treatment plant to take over from the plant being modified. The aeration system was modified at a fraction of the cost involved in emptying the tank and fitting the tank with membrane diffusers and blowers.
The Triton® dual mode aerators have provided the plant with fine bubble aeration and total mixing of the tank contents at very competitive prices and without excessive noise. In fact, when we asked Scottish Water's Operative for his comments he replied, "We are very satisfied and the system is operating well and is quiet compared to the previous system".
Triton® Aerators are available in sizes ranging from 3.7 kW to 56.0kW and are simple and easy to install. They are ideal for the upgrade of existing aeration systems in Activated Sludge Plants and Oxidation Ditches. They can also provide nitrification and de-nitrification and come with a five year manufacturer's warranty.
