Multi-disciplinary Atkins to design £35m new water pumping station
Atkins is proud to announce their confirmation of appointment for the detailed design and implementation of the new St German's Pumping Station in Norfolk on behalf of the Middle Level Commissioners (MLC). The existing station, already one of the largest in the UK and rated at 70 cubic meters per second, is to be replaced by a new uprated station.
This appointment follows Atkins Water's successful completion of feasibility and option studies for MLC, culminating in the production of the formal application to Defra with the justification for grant aid. This has involved environmental and river model studies as well as the mechanical, electrical and civil engineering disciplines.
The implementation of the pumping station design will involve a large multi-discipline team to develop a modern, architecturally significant station with a design life of 80 years. The total capital cost of the scheme is estimated at £35M and will involve up to four separate contracts with an expected completion date of December 2008.
