Atkins strengthens its contaminated land team
Atkins is strengthening its position in the regeneration sector with two new appointments to its contaminated land team.
Owen Mills joins as an associate director to expand Atkins' UK and international capability in the oil and petrochemicals sector. Owen has 18 years experience in environmental engineering consultancy and contracting, formally as an associate director with URS and most recently as the managing director of Ground Restoration Limited.
Jonathan Steeds has rejoined Atkins as a technical director following five years with Golder Associates. He has over 25 years experience in environmental consultancy in land contamination, brownfield regeneration, sustainability and corporate environmental due diligence for projects in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Nick Roberts, managing director of Atkins' Environment business: "Having the right expertise to bring brownfield land back into beneficial use will be critical to relieving the pressure to develop greenbelt and rural areas. These new appointments will build on the excellent capability Atkins is already demonstrating in managing the clean-up of large and complex sites such as the 220ha ex-oil refinery at Coed Darcy in Wales and the Olympic Park in London.
Combined with our other skills in creating new communities that have low carbon design at their heart, Atkins can offer even more holistic and therefore efficient ways to plan, design and enable sustainable development."
