Atkins awarded major Southern Water Asset Management Contract

Atkins has won a three year multi-million pound contract to manage Southern Water's asset base. The contract follows eight months of tendering and contract negotiations and builds on the company's fifteen year relationship with Southern Water.

The contract, with an anticipated value of between £10m - £15m, supports Southern Water's strategy to develop an industry-leading asset management function to enhance customer service, mitigate business risk and align the companies investment strategies for PR09.

Atkins will be involved in re-engineering existing processes and developing a number of new IT systems to support the Asset Management process. Adopting this approach will facilitate the use of our Bangalore Global Design Centre, a key part of the Southern Water Strategy to deliver efficiencies. This contract also includes the transfer of staff into Atkins and the establishment of two new local offices in Winchester and Brighton.

Roger North, Water & Environment International and Major Bids Director states: "This is a strategic contract for Atkins allowing us to use our knowledge of asset management from our experience in a number of engineering sectors with our global design capability."

Niall Mills, Southern Water's Director of Assets, said: "We have been working with Atkins for more than 15 years and in this time they have proven they can deliver the high standards we demand from our engineering consultants. As a regulated business we have a duty to deliver improvements and efficiencies and using industry leaders like Atkins will enable us to deliver these objectives."

Southern Water provides water supply and wastewater treatment services across Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Atkins has worked extensively with Southern Water since 1990, most recently in helping to deliver its AMP4 programme of water resource studies, water and sewerage network improvements and asset optimisation work.
