Controlling odours at waste water treatment plants around the United Arab Emirates
ERG continues to build on its strong performance in supplying odour control systems around these gulf states. As the population grows, along with urban expansion, this is leading to a significant number of water and waste water projects being undertaken.
The most recent projects have seen the completion of odour control systems at the pumping stations on islands 3 and 4 of the prestigious Al Marjan Island resort, a development in the small Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. Supplied to JOG Union Engineering, a major regional construction company, each island's system is a two-stage chemical scrubber designed to treat up to 2100m3/hr of odourous air. Fabricated locally from heavy duty GRP, the 2.5m tall sets will remove 98% of the H2S present in the foul air stream and so meet the specified outlet concentration. The project was completed on time against an accelerated schedule.
Meanwhile in neighbouring Abu Dhabi, Metito, the water and waste water management company, is undertaking a complete refurbishment of the sewer network. Phase one of this work put in place three pumping stations, all of which needed odour control measures. Once again ERG won the contract, supplying carbon filters at two of the sites and a chemical scrubber with attendant carbon filter at the main site. Now underway, the larger phase two has six pumping stations that also use ERG odour control systems, which all told have been worth $600k to the company.
