Rocket Science speeds Nanofiltration
Nanoceram®, a unique filtration material was inducted into the American Space Technology Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs earlier this month. Developed with the aid of grants from NASA Nanoceram® is being developed for inclusion in advanced water recovery systems for use in long duration space flights.
The nanofibre filtration material was developed jointly by Argonide Corp. of Sandford, Florida and scientists from the Design Technology Centre in Tomsk, Russia.
The unique proprietary technology is based on a highly electropositive filter that rapidly adsorbs particles, no matter how small. With a nominal pore size of 2 microns the filter demonstates exceptional flow characteristics, the unique electostatic potential of the fibres generates filter exceptional efficiency allowing the filter to behave as if it had a pore size of just 0.03 micron.
Nanoceram® filters offer extraordinary filtration efficiency and dirt holding capability with up to 20 times the capacity of conventional filter cartidges. Flow rates and clogging resistance are tens to hundreds of times greater than equivalent performing membrane filters. When compared to microglass, meltblown and membrane media, the new Nanoceram® filter has superior performance for filtering particles from microns down to a few nanometers.
Nanoceram® filters are available in cartidge, membrane and syringe filter format for use in endotoxin removal, sample preparation, detection of biological agents and production of purified water for industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical processing.
