Black & Veatch Costain joint venture on course for Southern Water's Romsey WWTW upgrade

The joint venture between Black & Veatch and Costain is on schedule to complete an £8M project for Southern Water to upgrade Romsey WWTW.

Part of the £120M of work being undertaken by the joint venture for Southern Water's K3 programme, the two-stream biological filter WWTW will have a maximum flow of 185 l/s to serve a population equivalent to 20,000. It has to meet new discharge consents that include:

· 60/40 mg/l SS (winter/summer)
· 40/25 mg/l BOD (winter/summer)
· 8mg/l NH3 (summer only)
· P 1mg/l
· Fe 2mg/l upper tier

Due for completion in 2006, the improvement works include screens and a screenings handling plant, a ferric dosing plant, multi-tank tertiary treatment deep-bed sand filter and a primary settlement tank.

Black & Veatch and Costain, who are responsible for programme and project management, including environmental and consent documentation and obtaining of planning permission, are also introducing a variety of pumping stations.
