New envirocheck tool puts phase 1 map analysis online

A new online tool which allows environmental consultants to analyse and compare different layers of mapping on-screen could save time spent on Phase 1 site analysis by as much as 25%.1

Envirocheck Analysis was launched by digital mapping specialists Landmark Information Group at their annual Risky Business conference in October. The new tool has been designed in consultation with customers and responds to a demand for faster comparison between layers of old and new mapping.

Currently, many practitioners are comparing different layers of hard copy mapping against a light box or even a window. This analysis tool brings together Landmark's full range of current and historical mapping in one online facility, allowing users to overlay and 'toggle' between maps to easily capture points of interest from all layers.

A free trial is available throughout November with every Envirocheck order that includes the Envirocheck Historical Map Pack. More information is available at www.envirocheck.co.uk/envirocheck/analysis.jsp.

David Mole, MD Landmark Environment, said: "While the same information can be captured through manual analysis of mapping, we know that in the current climate anything consultants can do to get that competitive edge will pay dividends with their client base. Speeding up the Phase 1 process through the development of Envirocheck Analysis will promote faster turnaround times and could help companies to fulfil more work with the same resource."

Speaking at Risky Business, Will Rogers - Associate Director at URS Corporation Ltd - noted the new tool's potential in the area of flood risk management, among other applications:

"When assessing flood risk it is essential to review historical data to see where rivers may have been diverted or streams culverted. This data helps us to build an effective picture of the original hydrology of a site. Envirocheck Analysis will certainly have a role to play in facilitating thorough and time-efficient site assessment."

1) Focus groups were undertaken during the development of Envirocheck Analysis and participants estimated a time saving potential of between 10% and 25%, having seen a pilot version of the tool.
