Landmark's Carbon Counter Helps Organisations Save on the <br>£1.6bn Energy Wasted Annually
An increasing number of organisations exempt from the government's CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) are looking to make substantial savings on energy expenditure by following in the footsteps of businesses for which compliance with the scheme is mandatory, according to Landmark Information Group.
With a recent report estimating that £1.6bn worth of energy is wasted by UK companies each year*, products such as Landmark's Carbon Counter, an online data management system, are helping these organisations to facilitate reductions in energy wastage, thereby making significant savings on energy expenditure.
David Mole, Managing Director of Environmental Due Diligence, Landmark Information Group, comments: "We have recently seen an increase in the number of organisations turning to Carbon Counter as they look to make cost savings in these austere times. With energy worth £1.6bn* wasted each year and research showing that financial directors actually undervalue returns from investing in energy efficiency by as much as 50%*, it is clear that businesses can make significant savings simply by reducing energy usage. However, in many firms there is no system in place to monitor and evaluate energy usage and expenditure, therefore it can be very difficult to identify where savings can be made.
"As data management experts, we designed Carbon Counter for those companies that fall under the government's CRC scheme. However, it is proving an invaluable asset to other organisations as a quick and cost-effective means to monitor energy usage in order to help them become more efficient. Carbon Counter simplifies and streamlines the recording and analysis of energy usage, allowing companies to see where they can implement efficiencies and enable cost savings to be made."
David continues: "It's not only the financial benefits of saving energy that appeal to companies; A recent study showed that 90%*** of the British public want organisations to commit to delivering the average 3% per annum emissions reduction required for the UK to meet climate change targets by the deadline of 2050 and other research showed that customers 'punish' socially irresponsible companies with their spending habits** which, from the feedback we have received, is increasingly a key driver behind companies' efforts to reduce energy emissions."
Since its launch just over year ago, over 100 organisations have chosen to use Carbon Counter, recognising it as a quick and cost efficient way to ensure their company meets the requirements. Almost half of these organisations come from the public sector however a growing number of private sector organisations are recognising the benefits of using the software, with companies such as Highland Spring Group and Vector Aerospace International already signed up.
