LRQA sees an increase in ISO 50001 enquiries as EA extends ESOS deadline
LRQA has seen an increase in enquiries for ISO 50001 certification, as more organisations choose ISO 50001 as their route to ESOS compliance.
The Environment Agency (EA) has extended the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) deadline to 30 June 2016 for those organisations that choose ISO 50001 certification as their route to compliance.
The EA still requires organisations to demonstrate commitment by December 5, but it gives the 10,000 or so organisations that have not yet met the mandatory legislation, vital time to get their compliance in place.
For organisations that anticipate missing the deadline, they will now be required to notify the EA of their reasons and provide a date for when they expect to submit their compliance notification. As long as they can demonstrate commitment to comply with ESOS by 5 December 2015, the EA may waive the non-compliance penalty.
Choosing to implement an energy management system (EnMS) certified to ISO 50001 by an accredited body as your route to compliance, will mean that you not only comply to ESOS this time round, but you will automatically comply in four years’ time.
Judith Turner, LRQA’s North Europe Energy and Environment Technical Manager comments, "As well as providing ESOS compliance, ISO 50001 certification is integrated into your business systems, processes and strategic objectives and acts on your identified energy savings to save your organisation time and money.”
"Not only will your organisation comply with ESOS using ISO 50001 certification, it will also save you money and result in less disruption to your business when the next ESOS compliance period starts, in a little over three years’ time.”
