10 km of +GF+ ABS pipe used in new PCI Membranes Fyne package water treatment plant
ITT Industries' Aquious division (incorporating PCI Membranes) has used over 10 km of George Fischer's specially developed 12 mm id ABS piping, and hundreds of fittings, in a new "Package Membrane Plant" for treating drinking water. Based on the Fyne process for treating organic laden water sources, for rural communities, the plant is capable of treating up to 450 cubic metres of water per day.
Prefabricated using +GF+ ABS piping, and installed in a deployable building, the complete water treatment plant is delivered to site and placed onto a preformed concrete slab, ready for connection to the preinstalled site power and water services.
Eliminating on-site construction by working to standard designs, thoroughly testing the plant prior to delivery and installing the plant into prefabricated deployable buildings, has slashed the 16 week project time to just 4 weeks!
The water treatment plant contains 96 membrane modules each of which is 200mm in diameter and 3.81m long. Each module contains seventy two 12 mm id pipes for supporting the individual NF tubular membranes, specially made by George Fischer for Aquious PCI Membranes.
Solvent welded joints mean that no special tools are required and, as +GF+ ABS is light, easy to cut and clean to handle, productivity levels are high.
The only company manufacturing treatment plants employing the Fyne process, ITT Industries offer standard package units with capacities ranging from 3m³/day to 450m³/day - all incorporating +GF+ ABS pipe which is ideal for installation in such systems.
Bespoke plants are also offered to suit specific circumstances, unusual raw water conditions or applications requiring still greater capacities. Drinking water treatment plants incorporating the Fyne process and GF pipework have now been in operation for over ten years and are installed in various countries across two continents.
Although the water treatment building is insulated, and heated in cold weather, high impact resistance +GF+ ABS piping has excellent resistance to extreme temperatures as low as - 40 deg C and good thermal insulation properties compared to copper pipe.
An important factor in the choice of +GF+ ABS for the water treatment plant was its lack of corrosion and the cleanliness and smooth bore which assisted water flow.
