+GF+ Sensors and flow meters used in UK's leading Diamond Light Dest Synchrotron
A world leading research facility near Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Didcot, Oxfordshire, presently under construction - the Diamond Light Dest, a third generation synchrotron - is utilising 344 George Fischer Signet 2536 Paddle Wheel Low Flow Sensors and 360 Variable Area Flow meters.
George Fischer won the contract for this, the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for nearly 30 years, based on the company's ability to respond to specific requirements of the cutting edge technology and produce a solution that matched the tight technical criteria.
The +GF+ Paddle Wheel Low Flow Sensors and Variable Area Flow meters will be critical for the measurement of the correct flow rate of the cooling water so that the highly focused ultra violet and x-ray beams that drive the experiments can be sustained.
Utilising insertion paddle wheel technology George Fischer's 2536 Paddle Wheel Low Flow Sensor is a high resolution, low power device, for measuring extremely low velocity flow rates. Incorporating advanced Hall Effect design it operates with a wide range of voltages and current supplies necessary in the Diamond Light Dest synchrotron.
George Fischer's sensors and flow metres were chosen for their absence of electromagnetic interference which is crucial in such a facility where electron beams, less than a hair's breadth across, are guided by powerful magnets.
Satisfying a technically difficult design criterion George Fischer's Paddle Wheel Low Flow Sensors and Variable Area Flow meters were chosen based on renowned technical backup, high performance and reliability.
An integral part of the state-of-the-art scientific facility that will enable scientists to investigate the structure of matter - such as biological tissues, polymers and catalysts at the atomic and molecular level. This will assist in the design of new medicines, new materials and investigations into environmental issues such as climate change.
