Cranfield Revamps Water Sciences CPD Programme

Following the recent announcement of significant investment in the area of Natural Resources and the restructuring of its MSc courses, Cranfield University's Water Sciences group is now in a position to present a revitalised and extended CPD short course programme to the waste, water and environmental sectors.

A total of 30 courses are now offered by the group, run over one, two or five days. In addition, there are also two ten day courses on 'Water & Effluent Treatment Process Fundamentals' and 'Water & Wastewater Treatment: System Hydraulics & Pumping'.

Commenting on the revised CPD programme, the Head of Centre, Prof. Simon Judd, emphasised the variety of topics covered and the flexibility of delivery; 'We have used our core MSc delivery programme as a skeleton for the short courses. This means that the range of topics we cover at MSc level is now fully reflected in the short course programme. It also provides greater choice and flexibility for professionals who often have significant constraints on how much time they can commit to ongoing training."

With courses covering scientific, technology, engineering and sustainable management aspects of water resources treatment and management, the new CPD schedule is suitable for professionals in a variety of sectors. For example, sessions on risk management, desalination and conservation & reuse have been added to complement more traditional Water Sciences fare based on conventional treatment technologies. 'A lot of effort has been put into reviewing the design and appropriate delivery of these CPD units' explained Professor Judd, 'opportunities are there for people who want to build up their CPD credits towards a postgraduate certificate, diploma or MSc award but there is plenty of interest for those wishing to attend a one or two day event as a way to brush up or enhance their knowledge on emerging technologies and issues.'

The style of the new CPD programme in terms of delivery and content is marked with Cranfield's emphasis on 'training for practice'. Clear, auditable learning outcomes, a mix of in-house and guest speakers as well as plenty of worked examples can be expected.

The new CPD programme runs from October through to March and places are available on all courses. Discounts are available for members of British Water, the Chartered Institute of Water & Environmental Management, Institute of Civil Engineers, Institute of Water Officers, International Water Association, and Institute of Chemical Engineers as well as those booking multiple events.
