Conference to provide insight into evidence based decision-making in environmental protection
A one-day conference at Cranfield University offers environmental risk stakeholders an opportunity to consider an evidence-based approach to managing future risk, and discuss successful risk management strategies.
Public scrutiny over Government spending and greater control over environmental risk has led to a need to improve the quality of environmental management by basing choices on reliable data and analysis.
However, uncertainties and ambiguity often surround the evidence gathered, presenting an additional challenge in bringing clarity to evidence-based approaches to managing environmental risks.
Hosted by the Collaborative Centre of Excellence in Understanding and Managing Natural and Environmental Risks (the Risk Centre), the conference includes an impressive line up of speakers from Government, academia, industry and media, bringing together expertise from a strategic and technical perspective.
Keynote speaker Professor Steve Hrudey from the University of Alberta, Canada, is joined by representatives from the Guardian and Sunday Herald, Health Protection Agency, Defra, Shell, the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), Carnegie Mellon University, USA and the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES), to discuss their experience and share best practice in environmental risk.
The conference is being held on the Cranfield campus on 22 June 2011. For further information and to reserve your place, please visit www.cranfield.ac.uk/sas/risk
