RSK Group acquires www.Green-Car-Guide.com in world-first deal as low emission cars take centre-stage
Leading multidisciplinary environmental consultancy RSK Group has acquired www.Green-Car-Guide.com, the UK's original green car news website.
The unique deal, thought to the first of its kind for an environmental consultancy, will complement RSK Group's existing work in decarbonising the transport sector, and is an explicit acknowledgement that innovative business practice is integral to the global shift to a low carbon economy.
Adopting the tagline "Powered by RSK Group", www.Green-Car-Guide.com is set to undergo a series of enhancements in the coming months. The site's first major update, live from today, is the Green Car Game, an innovative and engaging new way to raise awareness of the emissions and fuel economy of best-in-class green cars.
RSK Group will also bolster www.Green-Car-Guide.com team's already impressive environmental credentials by offering access to its 750-consultant strong knowledge base, which includes experts in such relevant fields as transport infrastructure and carbon management.
Founded in September 2006, www.Green-Car-Guide.com was the UK's first website entirely devoted to green car news, reviews and road-tests. The website publishes its own unique Green Car Guide, which gives users a concise, categorised and user-friendly overview of class-leading low emission cars currently on the market.
www.Green-Car-Guide.com was created and produced by Promote, a specialist environmental communications consultancy that was acquired by RSK Group's communication subsidiary, tes, in 2008.
Since then it has been, and will continue to be, run by tes associate director and erstwhile founder of Promote, Paul Clarke, who is widely regarded as one of the UK's most pre-eminent green car experts.
RSK Group's acquisition of www.Green-Car-Guide.com comes at an appropriate time with industry experts predicting a significant year for green motoring as both political and consumer views converge to demand a more sustainable transport sector.
For example, a recent study by leading market research company Frost & Sullivan predicts that by 2020 at least 15% of all new cars sold will be electric, a dramatic change which it says will be driven by factors such as oil price uncertainties, government support and technology breakthroughs.
There are currently more than a dozen dedicated electric vehicle brands including Tesla and REVA, while big guns such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, BMW and General Motors have either petrol/electric hybrids or all-electric cars in production or under development.
RSK Group chairman Dr Alan Ryder said:
"As we have an impressive carbon management consultancy track record and are helping some of the world's biggest brands prepare for the low carbon economy, we felt our knowledge and resources could help this site become even bigger.
In the coming post-COP15 years, a new era of carbon restraint will force businesses and individuals to adapt and innovate. We believe www.Green-Car-Guide.com can be a useful, user-friendly tool in this respect by raising awareness and helping motorists choose cars with lower environmental impacts."
Tes associate director and www.Green-Car-Guide.com founder Paul Clarke said:
"I have always believed cars should be more efficient, so I started www.Green-Car-Guide.com as a focused source of information for motorists about the latest low emission vehicles. There is a huge need for cars to be more sustainable but nobody was communicating the options clearly.
Our site combines expert knowledge about cars, the environment and communication, which is a very a potent combination."
