WPL meets Water Authorities Health and Safety Standards
The HiPAF range is supplied to major water utilities, as well as domestic and commercial applications. Available as a permanent or temporary solution, the range includes above and below ground tanks and will service small communities of up to 3,000PE, biologically treating effluent to the consent standards required.
As part of an on-going customer led product development process, WPL invited Water Utilities to provide feedback on the HiPAF plant and to give their opinions as to how it could be improved to meet their individual needs and re-developed from an operational and health & safety perspective.
WPL then set about redesigning the HiPAF based on the feedback received.
The end result was the new Mark 3 lid and cover arrangement, providing greater access to the valves within the plant to assist with operator maintenance requirements, allowing for easier and hence safer maintenance.
One of the main risks previously identified with the HiPAF were the large access areas over open water. The new Mk3 now addresses this and the lids and safety grids have been developed so that maintenance operators can visually inspect the plant drastically reducing the risk of any incident.
The Mark 3 lids complete with integrated safety grids, which can be lifted by a sole operator, having a combined maximum weight of 25kgs. All of the access covers and safety grids are manufactured from GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), whilst all stays, catches, hinges and latches are made from Stainless Steel.
The lids and safety grids are both able to be locked in the open position with a positive locking stay which allows for the plant to be inspected without risk of the lid closing unexpectedly. To reduce the risk of tripping when the access cover is closed, the handles have been repositioned so they do not protrude, thus reducing the possibility of a trip hazard. The lid hinges have been designed so the lid can be removed easily if needed, without having to undo a number of awkward fixings
