MWH appoints Business Area Manager for Carbon Management Services

Environmental engineering and water expert MWH has appointed Adrian Johnson to the newly created role of Business Area Manager for Carbon Management Services across the UK.

Adrian, 37, is based in MWH's Edinburgh office, and has been with MWH for 16 years, having joined as a graduate. He has degrees from the University of Durham and the University of Cambridge and is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Commenting on his appointment Adrian said: "In my new role I look forward to promoting MWH's carbon management strategy and services right across the business. The issue of carbon measurement and reduction is a crucial one for the water industry and the other sectors in which we work. I shall be working closely with my colleagues to ensure that we deliver the best possible carbon measurement and reduction services for our clients."

Adrian will be heading up the company's carbon management services through MWH's offices across the UK. He will report to Garry Sanderson, MWH Director of Knowledge and Technical Services.

Commenting on Adrian's appointment Garry said: "I would like to congratulate Adrian on his appointment - his area of expertise is vital for MWH and he will bring to this role a range of skills and great enthusiasm.

"The role of Business Area Manager is a new one and focuses on the strategic leadership of key technical areas. Business Area Managers work across business units to develop sustainable integrated teams to deliver excellent performance, with their initial focus being support of MWH's AMP5 campaigns."

Adrian heads up a multi-disciplinary team engaged in developing practical tools for carbon accounting and management that can be rapidly applied to provide clear information for decision makers.

A recent project that Adrian and his team have delivered is a set of guidelines for UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR), on 'embodied carbon and whole life carbon accounting'. This project is one of a suite of carbon measurement projects that UKWIR has commissioned for widespread use by the UK water industry.
