Duke of York supports Biwater in Libya

On the 7th November 2007, HRH The Duke of York paid his first visit to Libya in his capacity as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade & Investment. He hopes this will be one of a number of visits in future years as he looks forward to a long term relationship with Libya. During the visit he attended a seminar in Tripoli titled "Sustainable Water Management in Libya".

The seminar hosted by the British Water company Biwater, with support from UK Trade and Investment in Libya, was attended by many VIPs including the Secretary of the General People's Committee for Electricity, Water & Gas and the Housing & Infrastructure Board's Deputy for Technical Affairs and Mr. Adrian White, the Chairman of Biwater Plc together with engineers, consultants and academics involved in Libya's water infrastructure.

The seminar was part of The Duke of York's six day visit to Libya, supporting British companies active in Libya. Following the Seminar The Duke visited one of Biwater's project sites in Shahat, east of Libya. The Shahat Wastewater Treatment Plant is part of a programme to construct 14 wastewater treatment plants in the Green Mountain region which will ensure that currently untreated wastewater effluent is treated to EU standards.

In recent years Biwater has played an important part in Libya's water infrastructure development. Biwater is an international water company with more than 100 years experience in the industry and it is that experience that has helped Biwater to widen its portfolio of Libyan projects to five contracts for 14 wastewater treatment plants and two brackish water reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plants. Biwater's commitment to improve water infrastructure in Libya continues with the recent successful bid for a major wastewater treatment scheme in Tripoli. The company is actively pursuing partnerships with various government departments, consultants & contractors to assist the planning and development of the Water & Wastewater Infrastructure in Libya.
