Biwater Wins New Contract In Ghana

Biwater International Limited has been awarded a new potable water supply contract adjacent to the main town of Kumawu and its environs in Ghana.

The contract, to be Known as 3K's - (Kwahu Ridge, Konongo and Kumawu Upgrade Works) Phase I, was awarded by the Engineer, Tahal, who has been contracted by the Ghana Water Company to design and finance improvements to the potable water supply for these areas.

The scope of works is similar to the existing Kpong Rural Pipeline contracts undertaken for Ghana Water Company and involves pipeline material being procured and shipped, by the Engineer, to the consolidation point at Kumawu whereupon Biwater will transport the pipes by road up country to the jobsites prior to laying them underground in a variety of ground conditions. Pipeline material choice has been selected by the Engineer with some 33km of pipe being in situ welded high density polyethylene, with the balance being welded steel pipeline that will be used in especially rocky areas. In total, approximately 58 kilometres of pipeline in varying diameters from 500mm down to 150mm will be laid in the varying ground conditions.

The contract has been agreed on a re-measurable Bill of Quantities basis and has a value of approximately US$6m to Biwater.

The performance of Biwater on its existing Kpong Rural Pipeline contracts, together with the experience of its staff and employees, has played a major part in the winning of this contract. Coming directly after the substantial completion of the Rural Pipelines, the award of this contract lets Biwater participate further in the improvement of Ghana's potable water supplies.
