Electronic nose on show at organics conference

Pioneering 'electronic nose' technology for waste odour monitoring will be showcased by Enviro Technology at the Association for Organics Recycling (AfOR) conference on 15 March.

Odour pollution is a serious concern for the UK's biological waste treatment industry as it continues on a path of substantial growth. The RQ Box electronic nose enables better monitoring and management of the odours that are a natural by-product of this industry.

Providing scientifically-sound measurement on a 24/7 basis, the technology can underpin strategies ensure odours are kept at an acceptable level. By sensing smells and raising an alert before they cause human discomfort, it triggers odour control activity at an early stage. It can also facilitate predictive analysis by identifying internal and external factors (such as weather conditions) which can indicate when nuisance odours are likely to occur.

As well as introducing the RQ Box to attendees, specialists from Enviro Technology will be on hand to discuss Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS). The firm can offer expert advice on meeting the requirements of complex legislation facing some waste and biomass plants - such as the Waste Incineration Directive and Large Combustion Plants Directive. The air quality monitoring specialist can also advise on real-time analysis of pollutants associated with the water and sewage treatment industry, such as hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.

"This year's AfOR conference is set to be a dynamic and interesting event," says Duncan Mounsor, Sales and Marketing Director at Enviro Technology. "It will address key issues facing the sector, from meeting landfill diversion targets to the implications of the End of Waste initiative. We will be available throughout the conference to discuss innovative ways to enhance measurement - and management - of the industry's impact on air quality."

The AfOR conference will be held at Chesford Grange in Kenilworth on 15 March, more information is available via: www.organics-recycling.org.uk.
