sera ProDos expands capabilities with new premises

It is the UK subsidiary of the global sera Group, which was established in 1945 by Reinhold Seybert and Hubert Rahier. The group now comprises of five subsidiaries in South Africa, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and the UK, with its headquarters in Germany, and is split into two sections: ComPress, which deals with compressor technology, and ProDos, which covers dosing technology.

As a worldwide leader in dosing technology, sera ProDos is a system provider of high quality products and services for the dosing and feeding of chemicals and fluids. Indeed, with 75 years of experience, sera ProDos is renowned for its excellent customer service and leading German engineering, offering some of the most robust pumps available on the market to customers involved in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and water and wastewater treatment.

A recent addition to sera ProDos’ chemical dosing pump offering is its iSTEP stepper motor pump, which combines an intelligent drive concept with the accuracy of a diaphragm dosing pump. Setting standards in reproducibility and reliability, the iSTEP offers variable frequency control and a flow range of 0.02..50l/h at 10..3 bar, offering for a varied range of application possibilities. The iSTEP is suitable for an array of applications, including chlorine dosing for the treatment of drinking water, flocculating agent dosing in wastewater treatment, dosing of flocculant aids, and CIP Use.

The pump is operated using a detachable control element, which allows the rapid commissioning of several pumps with the same function. Furthermore, the control electronics of the iSTEP can be controlled using an Interface Module, and the status of the pump is indicated by a colour change on the display, meaning it is instantly recognisable. As well as allowing ease of use, this also results in minimal downtime. The iSTEP is used internationally, with CE and TR certifications, and offers different speeds of suction and pressure stroke depending on the user’s requirements.

Another of sera ProDos’ notable products is its series of diaphragm pumps, oscillating displacement pumps for dosing liquids. Here, the medium to be pumped is separated from the drive by a diaphragm, thus protecting it from the damaging influences of the medium. These pumps are used everywhere where leak-free and exact dosing is essential, such as for aggressive, odorous, abrasive, radioactive, flammable, viscous or toxic media. Flow rate is constant or continuously adjustable, by manually changing the stroke length. The delivery rate can be adjusted automatically using either:

  • Three-phase motors suitable for frequency converter operation for stroke frequency change using an external frequency converter
  • Actuators with position controllers for automatic stroke length change

These diaphragm pumps can also be offered with special features for individual dosing tasks, and all necessary accessories can be ordered straight from sera ProDos.

sera ProDos also offers PolyLine®, a series if simple, flexible, economical and powerful systems for preparing polymers. Polymer solutions are used everywhere where sedimentation or flotation of suspended solids in water is to be accelerated and the dewatering behaviour of thickened sludge improved, such as in wastewater treatment, paper manufacture, drinking water treatment, and sewage sludge dewatering.

PolyLine® systems are equipped with a precise flow measurement for solution preparation and filling level measurement, in order to ensure the efficient and economical operation of the systems. They are client and application specific modular systems, featuring high-grade PP tanks. They are also versatile enough to be used with powdery or liquid polymer or composite polymer, and have high process efficiency due to a virtually complete solution of newly prepared polymer. What’s more, the solution concentration is accurately adhered to, as the dry material feeder and the liquid concentrate pump can be calibrated in a reproducible manner.

The systems also feature low maintenance filling level measurement due to a continuous, contactless ultrasound sensor, and are very easy to use thanks to a compact PLC and built-in process visualisation and touchscreen. Like most of sera ProDos’ catalogue, the PolyLine® series can be customised and expanded with other products from the sera range.

This year, Paul Ratcliffe joined the company as the UK Sales Manager, bringing with him 23 years’ experience in the dosing market. He explained some of sera ProDos’ most recent developments. “We’ve secured new premises in Burton on Trent to give us a more centralised location. We’ll be moving here at the beginning of 2020, and we think it’s an important development for us, helping us to be closer to more of our customers as well as offering a collection/over the counter service and credit card service for local customers who need things urgently.

“This new premises will also give us more room to hold customised stock levels of spares and replacement pumps, as well as the ability to house a small production facility to help us towards our goal to offer a full package service to our customers. We’re increasing our service capability, both internally and externally, with plans to employ more external staff to go directly to the customer’s site. This will allow us to look at and repair equipment on the customer’s premises as well as onsite, helping us to provide an even higher quality service.

“As well as increasing the numbers of staff on the road, we’ll also be expanding our sales and technical workforce to add further value to our offering over the next two years, as well as introducing even more innovative and robust products.”

Without a doubt, sera ProDos has everything in place to continue its successes in the coming years.
