Demountable flood defence system supplied to protect town

After only three months of acquiring the Aquafence Distributorship for the UK and Ireland, Norfolk based company Floodsense have just supplied A National construction company Volker Stevin (part of the Volker Wessels Group) with 125 Meters of its Aquafence system.

The system has been purchased to protect over 600 properties in Todmorden while Volker Stevin replace 500 meters of walling which run alongside the River Calder.

There is a long history of flooding in both Walsden and Todmorden. Since 1979, there have been noteworthy events causing significant flooding in September 1982, December 1990, January 1995, June 2000 and January 2008.

As part of the Environment Agency's £13million Flood Alleviation Scheme for the Town, for which Volker Stevin are the EA's preferred contractors, they were required to source a system that could be erected very quickly, was completely movable and had a proven history in flooding events. Until this system was found improvements could not commence.

After contacting various other companies and viewing their products Gary Robinson (Senior General Foreman) invited floodsense to their Todmorden site to explain the system and demonstrate its effectiveness.

This meeting we are pleased to say was very successful with Gary Robinson being very impressed at the Aquafence's simplicity and mobility.

Kevin Williams of Floodsense said " we are extremely pleased that Volker Stevin have chosen the Aquafence system as we feel it has many advantages over other movable systems, in that it is completely stand alone, very quick and easy to install, flexible and versatile, ideal for this type of construction work".
