The Grocer tackles the Green Issues: Conference 26th September
The Grocer's Green Issues conference will bring together industry movers and shakers to help address the major environmental issues facing the food and drink retail and manufacturing sector.
Low-carbon initiatives have been announced by many of major food manufacturers such as, Cadbury Schweppes, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Associated British Foods, as well as food retailers. But such schemes have also raised many questions for the industry.
Although the Carbon Trust, Defra and BSI British Standards have joined forces to develop a standard method of measuring greenhouse gas emissions generated by food and drink production, with a view to launching a standardised low-carbon label, the industry is also aware of the problems inherent in adopting a sector-wide scheme.
This one-day conference will consider many of the questions arising from these issues and offer viewpoints from those directly involved with the whole area of carbon labelling and food miles. There will be opinions from Tesco, M&S, Waitrose, Cadbury Schweppes, Boots Alliance, Mintel and the Carbon Trust.
The event will offer a great networking opportunity for CSR, sustainability and climate change managers as well as other environmental experts.
