Green Eiffel Tower scheme divides France

Plans to turn the Eiffel Tower into "the world's tallest tree", by covering it in 600,000 plants, have divided opinion in France.
The 'confidential' plans put forward by engineering firm called Ginger were leaked this week by the Figaro newspaper.
Currently 27% of Figaro readers are in favour of the 72 million euro scheme to make the building carbon positive. However, 73% oppose the idea, judging by the newspaper's comments page, they see it as a ridiculous waste of money in times of financial hardship.
